My Quilting Adventure Begins

Quilts I made in 2017

The first quilt I made, called "East, West, Home is Best," was a gift for my favorite first cousin Marian. My sister Linda was teaching me how to quilt, and we had a lot of fun. We made three matching pillows, too! The light blue fabric has a compass rose on it, which is so appropriate because I made this for her to keep on her boat!

Date of gift: September 26, 2017
Finished size: 46" by 55"

The second quilt I made, called "Lucky," was a gift for my niece and her fiance. She loves horses (actually she loves all animals), so I chose fabric by Moda called Thoroughbred. This was a wedding gift, and I wish them lots of love and luck in their marriage.

Date of gift: October 5, 2017
Finished size: 43" by 53"

My third quilt, called "Tabby Road," was a gift for my friend Leah. She just lost her sweet cat Sheriff. My sister Linda and I picked fabric from Tula Pink called Tabby Road (so cute that it just had to be the name of the quilt, too). We sewed together at Linda's house, which was so much fun. The backing fabric is from Cotton and Steel, black with little white cat faces. Since Sheriff was a black cat, it was definitely meant to be part of this quilt!

Date of gift: October 25, 2017
Finished size: 48" by 58"

My fourth quilt, called "Bloom and Grow," was a gift for my friend Marlene.  She and her husband David opened and operate a school in Uganda (where he is from). Marlene is always doing things for everyone else, so I thought I wanted to do something that was just for her. I used a layer cake by Moda called Coney Island. I named the quilt "Bloom and Grow" because Marlene's work allows all the students at their school to flourish. I found the backing fabric which reminded me of edelweiss flowers.

Date of gift: November 6, 2017
Finished size: 59" by 67"

My fifth quilt, called"Friendly Forest," was a gift for a very sweet little guy. The fabric has lots of forest animals on it, including foxes and bears. One of the fabrics has mushrooms on it, and I especially love the toadstool with the red top and white polka dots. I found fabric to use for the quilt back that's red with white polka dots. It reminds me of a childhood song about a little gnome who sits on this toadstool!
